Dougal Shaw

Dougal Shaw is the BBC's only Video Innovation Journalist, working within the BBC News Business Unit. As well as creating original digital reports himself, he coordinates digital content, including videos optimised for platforms like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. He has filmed on his mobile phone for the past 5 years, with his reports appearing both online and on BBC News television outlets like Breakfast, bulletins and BBC London. He has a special interest in Solutions Journalism, having worked on the BBC's dedicated strand People Fixing the World, creating several viral hits. He continues to cover Solutions Journalism stories from a business perspective.

Dougal joined BBC News in 2003 and worked for four years on the Hardtalk programme (and helped to set up its arts and culture strand Hardtalk Extra with Gavin Esler). Since then he has worked at the heart of the digital newsroom at the BBC. He was chosen as a founding member of the Video Innovation Lab which created the BBC's first video offerings for Instagram and Snapchat. He also helped to set up the successful strand BBC Trending. He has been filming his own stories for the past ten years, using primarily his mobile phone for the past five. Two of his biggest original features that have proved viral hits are a report on the concept of Circular Runways for airports and another on Sweden's first recycling shopping mall  (49m and 39m views on Facebook respectively).
