Dr Denise Maxwell Biography 2026
Dr Denise Maxwell is the multi genre international Photographer behind Lensi Photography; going against the grain shooting multiple genres such as sports, fashion, events, music, portraits and photojournalism to name some.
She is largely self taught and comes from a working class background of a council estate in the Midlands. She never imagined becoming a photographer, she did not grow up knowing anyone that looked like her in this profession. She has now been a full time photographer for 16 years.
She shoots each of these at the highest level. Including having covered the commonwealth Games, London Fashion Week, Festivals such as Reading and Wireless, The Cannes Lions Festival and she works on commission for The Times Newspaper.
She has photographed some of the most well known people and events in the world across all these genres including President Barak Obama, Kanye West, Usian Bolt, Denzel Washington and events such as the BAFTAs, The Fashion Awards and Eurovision.
Her recognition also spans these varied genres.
* named as 1 of 7 female documentary photographers to be highlighted by the BBC during lockdown.
* Her art work has been exhibited at The Midlands Arts Centre, The Harris Museum and The Photography Show.
* She has had work published in major publications such as OK Magazine, The Independent and Metro.
* One of 15 female photographers chosen to be exhibited by F22 of The Association of Photographers
* Was the award winning photographer behind the Starling Bank “Make Money Equal” Campaign
* She guest lectures at various International Universities and UK Colleges and delivers courses teaching photographers how she earns her 5-10k per month from photography
* Photography Mentor at The Southbank Centres and Apple Reframe Residency for 77 artists in residence.
Her favourite event of 2025 was working backstage shooting Usher on his world tour in London and a week shooting in Cannes France, where she got to be on a private yacht with Mary J Blige; these two events were extra special as these were both artists she was a fan of from young, attended concerts and bought albums of.
Her client list includes global brands Canon, Uber, Amazon, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, HSBC and Goldman Sachs to name a few.
Denise also shares her knowledge through guest lecturing at various universities across London and Paris, speaks at major photography expos in the UK and internationally, has a subscription Patreon where she gives weekly knowledge, and delivers her own 12 week course on the Business of Photography - how photographers actually earn money!
Denise was awarded a Doctorate by The University of Wolverhampton in 2023 for breaking barriers in photography, her services to the Arts and helping emerging photographers.
