The Photography Apprenticeship (Photography Education – Level 4) is an 18-month, work-based training programme designed to turn aspiring photographers into capable professionals through a blend of real workplace experience and structured, tutor-led learning.
Apprentices develop core technical competence (camera operation, lighting, studio practice, editing/retouching), alongside the professional knowledge, skills and behaviours employers expect, such as planning, communication, adaptability, and a strong work ethic.
What the 18-month course covers (modules include): professional DSLR/full-frame camera use, lighting (intro through advanced studio lighting and using light sources creatively), business and working with clients, legal requirements, video techniques, Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and retouching, industry know-how, and topics such as drones and metadata (plus associations/AI).
How delivery works: learners typically attend monthly seminars (often delivered remotely via Teams/Zoom), receive monthly 1:1 Skills Coach support, and complete online learning and self-study including access to training sessions and critiques through partner professional associations.
The Photography apprenticeship with the JGA Group has been life changing for me. I have learnt so much about photography in a short space of time, whilst also developing my personal skills.
Our programme is led by Anthony Milner, professional photographer and trainer with experience in architecture, interior, fashion, studio and product photography. Anthony has completed projects (including some front covers) for publications such as Vogue, Grazia, House & Garden, FHM and World of Interiors.
