Don't Guess the light. See it!
Studio lighting doesn’t always require test photos or guesswork, in fact it can be as simple using sunlight. But unlike the sun, LED lights allow you to build and shape portrait lighting in the way you want and will feel instantly familiar to flash photographers, while remaining intuitive for those coming from natural light.
Starting with a single hard light source as a “sun,” Gavin will evolve the set-up using diffusion and shadows to show how light behaves in real time. You’ll see how reflectors, flags and modifiers work together to create contrast, depth and mood.
The session finishes with a clean, studio-style look using multi-light setups, shallow depth of field, and subtle background colour. Whether you shoot flash, LED or daylight, the goal is the same: faster setups and lighting that looks intentional rather than accidental.
